Election Results
State House:
District 49 John King defeated Marvin Rogers.
District 46 Gary Simril defeated Herb Crump 65 percent to 35.
SC Senate:
Mick Mulvaney won a narrow victory Mandy Powers Norrell.
York County Council:
Chad Williams took out incumbent Rick Lee for District 7 by a 53 to 47 percent.
Roy Blake held on to his District 4 seat over Tom Hardin.
Joe Cox defeated Eddie Lee for district 3
Paul Lindemann won over Marion Davenport and Bryan Smith for District 1.
Rock Hill School board:
Bob Norwood defeated David Griffin and Lance Fillet for the Rock Hill School Board at Large Seat.
Mildred Douglas edged out Deborah Broome in the Rock Hill District 3 race.
Clover:
Clover School Board at large went to Melanie Wood Wilson.
Fort Mill:
Fort Mill Town Council -Ronnie Helms over Terry Hudson.
Solicitor:
Incumbent 16th Circuit Solicitor Kevin Brackett defeated Philip Jamieson.
Coroner:
Sabrina Gast beat out Pete Skidmore to become York County's coroner.
Sunday Sales:
York County voters approved a county-wide referendum allowing Sunday alcohol sales in restaurants and bars that serve food.Tuesday's approval does not permit the Sunday purchase of alcohol for off-premise consumption from grocery stores or other outlets. Restaurants and bars that serve food could begin selling alcohol on Sundays within days of a certified vote, said Adrienne Fairwell, a spokesperson for the S.C. Department of Revenue.The referendum's approval comes as another victory in the effort to lift the long-standing ban on Sunday alcohol sales in York County.
Tega Cay:
Approving a referendum allowing Sunday beer and wine sales at stores. Stores could begin selling alcohol on Sundays within days of a certified vote, said Adrienne Fairwell, a spokesperson for the S.C. Department of Revenue.
SC Congressional Delegation:
South Carolina's Congressional delegation to Washington DC were all voted back in office. Lindsey Graham, Joe Wilson, Henry Brown, Gresham Barrett, Bob Inglis, John Spratt and Jim Clyburn will all be back in DC to continue their work.
Penny Sales Tax Votes:
Chester County will be able to renovate their jail and Lancaster County will get a new court house after voters in both counties approved a one cent sales tax yesterday. Chester County had been behind the eight ball and would have faced closure of their jail if the funds had not been available form the penny sales tax. Lancaster voters will be getting a new courthouse to replace the one that was damaged by a fire back in August.
(Fort Mill) A fight over a mock election at school ended with a parent threatening to shoot someone. Monday afternoon two Fort Mill elementary students got into a fight on a school bus. According to our television partner Channel 9 Eyewitness News, when the bus stopped on Joe Louis Street, one of the boys got off and told his waiting father that he had been hit in the face. The angry father got on the bus and yelled at the 40 students onboard, saying he was going to get a gun and shoot someone. 52-year-old Kenneth Babitz is charged with interference with the operation of a school bus. Police Captain Bryan Zachary says school officials quickly called parents about the incident. Babitz later apologized to school officials. Police say his son and another child were arguing over a mock election that was held at school Monday.
(Fort Mill) Wells Fargo announced its mortgage center in Fort Mill will be laying off workers in December. A spokeswoman Tuesday said affected employees have already received a 60-day notice and some may be eligible for severance packages. How many will be laid off is not known. Wells has fared better than its competition during the housing crisis, but did suffer a third-quarter loss of 13 percent in mortgage applications that past year. Wells Fargo is a major employer in the state with 19-hundred employees, most of those living in the Fort Mill area.
(York) A York County Detention officer has been charged with Second Degree Sexual Misconduct with an Inmate. Robert Martin, a officer since April 12, 2004 was accused of the sexual misconduct by a inmate that allegedly happened on October 19th. The inmate made the accusations a few days later and following an investigation by SLED, Sheriff Bruce Bryant released Martin from employment. Martin was released on a 5 thousand dollar personal recognizance bond
(North Carolina) North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue is now Governor-elect Beverly Perdue after narrowly defeating Charlotte Mayor Patrick McCrory 50-to-47-percent. Libertarian Candidate Mike Munger also got almost three percent of the vote. Perdue becomes North Carolina's first female governor after becoming the state's first female Lieutenant Governor in 2000. McCrory had tried to tag Perdue as a part of corruption in North Carolina's state government.
(North Carolina) Republican Elizabeth Dole has lost her U.S. Senate seat. The one-term Senator lost to North Carolina State Senator Kay Hagan 53-to-43 percent. Dole had been Senator since 2003 after taking over for the Jesse Helms. It is the first time the seat has gone Democratic since 1973 when Helms first won the office.
(Aiken County) The Aiken County Sheriff's Office is investigating the case of a woman who was found dead inside a Jeep Cherokee. Andrea Bozarth of Beech Island was found inside a garage behind a mobile home by a relative. An autopsy found the woman died from a single gunshot wound to the chest. Authorities say the case is being investigated as suspicious.
(Hilton Head) A baby in Hilton Head nearly made its debut into this world in a voting booth on Tuesday morning. A patriotic mother-to-be and her husband stopped to vote while she was in labor and with contractions coming three minutes apart, the crowd at the precinct allowed the young couple to move to the head of the line where they cast their ballots and then rushed off to the hospital to have the baby.
